Prevent Blindness
Tri-State is the only nonprofit health agency in the state dedicated
to saving sight and preventing blindness since 1952. Sight is saved
for thousands each year through Prevent Blindness Tri-State's work
in prevention, research and early detection. These services are provided
at no cost and the programs are funded solely by private contributions.
Prevent
Blindness Tri-State is focusing on identification of sight-threatening
conditions in children and adults. Its services
include Prevent
Blindness Tri-State's Early Detection Screening
Programs for both older adults and preschool children, both groups being
those most at-risk for preventable Balinese. Screening programs are
conducted in day care centers statewide. The recent acquisition of new
state-of-the-art equipment allows trained volunteers and professionals
to vision screen even the youngest pre-verbal children for early detection
of amblyopia and other vision problems.
Prevent
Blindness Tri-State is spreading the word about eyecare and safety.
Through our Public Education Programs we increase awareness of eye health
and eye safety in Connecticut. These programs
target adults and children who are potentially at risk for blinding
conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts. age-related macular degeneration,
diabetic retinopathy and "lazy eye" or amblyopia. Trained
staff provide the public with accurate information about eye health
and appropriate referral to eye care professionals. Eye health information
is also available on its web site.
Prevent
Blindness Tri-State is helping people cope with vision loss.
Prevent Blindness
Tri-State provides education and support programs
to those individuals in the state that have eye disease through its
Patient Service Programs. These programs include education on topics
such as older eyes, glaucoma, low vision and eye patch support for children
and their parents.
Prevent
Blindness Tri-State is in the workplace. Prevent
Blindness Tri-State conducts health fairs, presentations
and screenings to promote safety and prevent injury, recognizing employees
who have saved their sight by wearing protective eyewear and rewarding
workplace safety.
Prevent
Blindness Tri-State is translating research into practice. Each
year Prevent
Blindness Tri-State sponsors educational symposia
and training programs where the latest eyecare research is translated
into practice for thousands of medical professionals in the state.
