NEW
TANTIUM™ SR
COATING BLOWS AWAY BAYER RATINGS AND DELIVERS UNPRECEDENTED DURABILITY
IN A POLYCARBONATE LENS
The Scratch Resistance Issue of Polycarbonate is Conquered
with the Release of Optima’s New SR Coating for Its RESOLUTION® Lenses
Stratford,
Conn. (March 31, 2003) – Although polycarbonate
lenses have been gaining increased market share, their use has
been limited by their inferior optics, poor scratch resistance
and the
eventual resulting “cleaning haze”. Optima, with its
revolutionary extrusion compression process, is now producing RESOLUTION®,
its optically precise polycarbonate lenses. With RESOLUTION®,
Optima has eliminated the inferior optics issue by providing optics
equivalent to a 1.60 lens. Its latest achievement, a super hard
scratch resistant coating, called Tantium™, eliminates the
one remaining issue – durability.
“Optima’s
new Tantium™ SR coating for RESOLUTION® lenses
removes the last remaining obstacle to the universal acceptance and use of
polycarbonate for most prescriptions,“ says Nicholas Niejelow,
president and CEO of Optima Inc. “We have conquered the optics
issue and now, with Tantium™,
scratch resistance. When you combine this with impact resistance, a price
point at one third the cost of a 1.60 lens and the advantages of
an aspheric/atoric
lens design, you really do have the ultimate lens.” Durability has
always been a concern when dispensing plastic lenses to children. RESOLUTION® Tantium™ lenses
now provide the ultimate combination of impact resistance and scratch resistance,
addressing the two most important concerns when fitting children with lenses.
Test
results from the widely respected Colts Laboratory gave RESOLUTION® Tantium™ SR
lenses a 5.43 rating, one of the highest in the industry. “The Bayer
5.43 rating guarantees that eyecare professionals can be confident in recommending
and dispensing RESOLUTION® polycarbonate lenses to all their patients.
They have the impact resistance and durability that children need and the
optics and
amazing cosmetic advantages that their most demanding patients will appreciate,” said
Niejelow.
Optima’s Tantium™ SR coating also serves as the substrate for RESOLUTION®’s
Cerium58™ AR lens which received a Colts rating of 7.50. This rating is
an amazing achievement and indicative of the superior durability that the new
scratch coating provides. “The combination of RESOLUTION®’s Tantium® SR
and CERIUM58™ AR has proven to be a dynamic duo. A Bayer rating of 7.50
is proof of that,” said Niejelow.
Tantium™ SR is also very compatible with other AR coatings. No special
procedures need to be followed and the lenses require no special cleaners or
lens care. RESOLUTION® Tantium™ SR lenses are available in
the full extended range, which is also the widest range of any polycarbonate
lenses
on the market. “
With RESOLUTION®’s extended range, our new coating options and finished
lens line labs can achieve significant savings by reducing lens inventories.
They can eliminate carrying both semi-finished and 1.60 lenses and dispense RESOLUTION® lenses
for all their mid and high index needs,” says Niejelow. “By stocking
RESOLUTION® instead of several lens lines, their increase in profits
can be substantial, as our customers are finding out.”
