NEW EXTENDED RANGE FOR RESOLUTION® LENSES TO EXCEED THAT OF ALL LEADING POLYCARBONATE LENS MANUFACTURERS
Broader Polycarbonate Range, Out to a –4.00 Cylinder, Promises Time and Cost Savings for Labs and Superior Optics for Higher Powered Rx’s

Stratford, Conn. (September 12, 2002) – Optima announces a new extended range for RESOLUTION®, its polycarbonate lens line. The new range encompasses Plano to a –8.00 sphere with a –4.00 cylinder and an –8.25 to a –10.00 sphere with a –2.00 cylinder. Optima’s new extended range greatly increases RESOLUTION®’s product availability and surpasses that of all other leading polycarbonate lens manufacturers. “By broadening the extended range for RESOLUTION®, we fill a huge vacuum in the polycarbonate lens market. Labs will save time and money by pulling finished lenses versus having to generate a semi-finished product. They’ll save additionally by not having to coat the back side of the lens once surfaced. And by getting the only birefringence-free polycarbonate lenses, they are assured of getting flawless optics in all their prescriptions, regardless of the power,” says Nicholas Niejelow, president and CEO of Optima Inc. “Doctors who were reluctant to prescribe polycarbonate for high Rx’s now have a new option that provides superior optics with unprecedented power accuracy, and it is priced to be an outstanding lens value too.”

RESOLUTION® also offers the proven advantages of an aspheric/atoric lens design. Unlike semi-finished product that labs finish with a spherical curve, RESOLUTION® lenses are ALL aspheric/atoric! By using a 1.2 C.T. and an aspheric/atoric design, RESOLUTION® lenses are 14% thinner than front side aspheric polycarbonate lenses. The extended range offers high RX patients dramatic benefits in the cosmetic appeal of their lenses with the thinner lens profiles.

The lack of birefringence (or manufacturing-induced stress distortion) in the lens also provides another advantage: material integrity. As a result, RESOLUTION® lenses are not subject to the lens cracking that affects 10-15% of all polycarbonate lenses. “The combination of material integrity and the thinner lens profiles, made possible with the extended range, makes RESOLUTION® superior for rimless drilled mounts even for the highest Rx’s”, says Niejelow, “Patients with strong prescriptions can finally wear stylish frames with the thinnest lenses while not sacrificing any optical quality.”
Optima’s new extended range will be available in the entire RESOLUTION® product line, consisting of AR coated and SR coated tintable and non tintable (hard coated) lenses.
