Yo-Yo
Although ancient Greeks and 17th century French nobles had them,
they didn't go by that name. American toy maker Thomas Duncan
brought yo-yos to popularity in the U.S. in 1929 . He called them
Yo-yos because young Filipinos, whom Duncan had seen playing with
similar toys, shouted "yo-yo" which translates into English as
"come-come."

Person to Ride Niagara Falls in a Barrel
On July 11, 1886, Carlisle
Grahan, a Philadelphia barrel maker, was the first person to ride Niagara Falls in a barrel. He also
did it a second time with his head protruding from the barrel
and suffered permanent hearing loss. He made his last barrel Niagara
voyage in 1901 and was caught in a whirlpool for so long that
he nearly suffocated inside the barrel before being rescued. But
he did start a craze of river riding in barrels!
